My name is Marcus Povey - a human male born sometime in the late 1970's. Currently I am living in the world famous, tweedy and on occasion interesting city of Oxford in the UK.

Interests

For many years I have been interested in technology of all sorts and enjoy messing around with electronics, computer hardware, programming languages and operating systems. I have also been involved in a number of research projects.

I have a love of music and I play guitar, bass (and very occasionally drums) with varying degrees of success. At the moment I am trying my hand at a number of musical projects and am currently putting together a funk metal band... watch this space.

I love travel and am looking forward to some exciting trips this year both for pleasure and for work. This is partially the reason why I'm currently trying to teach myself French and Russian.

Professional commitments

I am currently based in the UK where I work as an IT consultant.

I contribute to a number of Free software projects as well as offering consultancy services to a number of companies including Curverider (makers of the Social networking software Elgg and the social network search program Explode).

Ambition

My goal in life is to enjoy it in any way I can. I aim to one day to be able to make a living doing things I enjoy. I find helping people through my work very rewarding, and I aim to leave the world in a better place to which I found it.

I believe that ethics are important and I want to make a real positive difference to peoples lives. I want to prove that you can do the "right thing" and relate to people as individual human beings but still pay your mortgage.
