I have a solid grounding in Software Engineering and real world software development practices born of over 10 years hands on industry experience. I possess a keen interest in all aspects technology and above all I enjoy the creative process of software architecture and development. As a veteran system architect with many projects behind me, I have robust instincts for design and system architecture and a proven record for providing quality solutions to highly technical problems. I pride myself on being highly adaptive and have a broad set of skills both technical and non-technical, and can very quickly turn my hand to learning a new skill when required - indeed, I greatly enjoy this kind of challenge.

Specific areas of expertise

  • Social networking, technologies involved and social impact. I am a core developer on both the Elgg social networking platform and the Explode social search tool. As a result I can offer an highly detailed level of Elgg platform support as well as a wider appreciation of the issues surrounding social networks in education and business.
  • Cryptography and security. I have knowledge of general cryptographic techniques as well as detailed knowledge of OpenPGP (I wrote a complete Java implementation from the ground up), PKCS / Cryptoki and many others. I have experience of applying these techniques to real world business situations including PCI-DSS compliance and e-Commerce applications.
  • Lucas ePOS, EFT, Smartswitch & SolveSE. I have detailed Lucas ePOS development experience, specialising in Chip&Pin EFT using Smartswitch and SolveSE. I can provide advice and support for configuration and deployment of such solutions on both Linux and Windows based environments. solutions to problems using a variety of techniques dependant on my client’s needs.
